Last updated March 2026. This database is compiled from publicly available information. AUM figures are approximate and sourced from fund disclosures, industry directories, and media coverage. Fund strategies and mandates change over time — always verify directly with the fund before reaching out.
Primary Sources

The base dataset was assembled from these authoritative directories and industry guides. Each fund record includes a source field tracing it to one or more of the following.

CVCA Member Directory 2026
Industry Directory

The Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA) publishes an annual directory of its member funds. This is the primary source for 116 funds in the database, providing fund name, headquarters, investment stage, and in many cases AUM figures in CAD. The CVCA directory is considered the most authoritative single source for the Canadian VC and PE ecosystem.

The 50: Canadian VC Ecosystem Guide 2026
Ecosystem Guide

An independently published guide profiling the most active Canadian venture capital funds. Covers fund thesis, sector focus, typical cheque size, and stage preferences for 76 funds. Particularly valuable for thesis descriptions and investment focus that go beyond basic directory listings. One fund appears in both The 50 and the CVCA directory.

Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) program data was sourced directly from bdc.ca. How We Built This

A plain-English explanation of where the data comes from and how fund profiles are put together.

1
We started with two authoritative lists

The base dataset comes from the CVCA Member Directory 2026 (the industry association for Canadian VC and PE) and The 50, an independently published guide to the most active Canadian funds. Together these cover 255 funds, including names, headquarters, investment stage, sectors, and AUM where disclosed.

2
We read each fund's public website

Where a fund has a public website, we read it — the about page, team page, portfolio, and any thesis or approach pages. This is how we fill in investment focus descriptions, portfolio companies, and team information that isn't in the directories.

3
AI helps us summarize and structure the data

We use AI to read each fund's website content and pull out the key details: what stage they invest at, what sectors they focus on, typical cheque size, and whether they have any specific mandates (like female-led or climate focus). This structured data is what powers the AI investor match feature.

4
AUM figures are estimates, not guarantees

Fund size numbers come from press releases, directory listings, and news coverage. Many funds don't publicly disclose their AUM, so figures may be outdated or reflect a previous fund vintage. Where a firm manages multiple funds, the number shown is typically total firm AUM — the individual fund you'd be raising from may be smaller.

5
We review and update over time

Profiles are reviewed manually for obvious errors and updated when funds announce new raises, strategy changes, or closures. The database was last updated in March 2026. If you spot something wrong, please use the "Report an Error" link on any fund page.

Accuracy & Corrections

We aim for accuracy but rely on publicly available information. AUM figures may lag fund closes. Thesis descriptions reflect the fund's public communications at the time of enrichment.

If you spot an error — wrong AUM, outdated thesis, incorrect stage, closed fund — please let us know. Each individual fund page has a "Report an Error" link.
